Two of the most common mistakes made by new web designers is the overuse of bold and thinking that color helps.
As you've undoubtedly seen at Ash Risen, we do use both bold and color to highlight key things. For topic titles, bold and underline or even a splash of color can be helpful. Things to avoid:
CONSTANT CAPS AND BOLD WITH UNDERLINING AND COLOR
CHANGES!!!

Typing a small paragraph in entirely bolded text. It removes the emphasis from the actual point and shows the viewer that you're unable to focus on key aspects of the vast amount of information you're presenting. You are, in essence, asking them to sift through all your material to find the point that you, the presenter, should be providing a clear manner.
