Xeriscape Project of 2008

After two years of research, a contractor was hired and the project began.

They dug the holes and laid the main drip system lines.

Three weeks later, we hadn't heard from them so we cancelled payment & filed a dispute with the Visa people and were assured it would be resolved in 45 days.

Apparently the City didn't care for the Weed Fest that sprouted while we were waiting for resolution on the Visa dispute.

We were required to remove all weeds (two full trash cans!) - dealing with about 50 ticked-off bees in the process - and get the front yard planted within seven days.

After weeding, we got to planting over 60 plants in total.

It was a long day! (2 of us, non-stop for 9 hours!)

The project needed to get finished or how else would we be able to tell the new plants from the weeds?!

Two solid hours of cutting, pinning & notching holes for plants to get the landscape fabric in place.

One certainly doesn't need to pay for a step-aerobics class when landscape fabric is involved!

Seven cubic yards of Second Harvest red cedar mulch, twenty 2-inch thick 12-inch-square red paving stones, ten 40-pound buckets of Horizon cobblestones and nine man-hours of back-breaking work later, we have a front yard!

In addition to the Xeriscape Rebate Program offered by the City of Auora, we look forward to assisting the environment by promoting the growth of native low-water-usage plants.  We strongly recommend planting thyme and sage, along with decorative grasses!
